SUNFLOWER SUPERSTAR

This summer, we’re inviting kids of all ages to take part in another Blackwood’s Sunflower Superstar competition! Don’t worry if you’ve not grown a Sunflower before. With a little help from our team or friends and family, you’ll have your sunflower sprouting in no time. They’re super easy to grow and we’re here to guide you every step of the way!

Grab your FREE sunflower seeds from your nearest Blackwood’s from Monday 22nd September, 2025. Plant them and snap some pics of their growing journey.  Share your photos with us and you could be crowned our Sunflower Superstar and WIN a R1000 Blackwood’s Voucher, a garden hamper and a R2000 Blackwood’s voucher for your school! Here’s how to enter and what you need to know:

How to Enter:

  • Visit your nearest Blackwood’s Garden Centre and sign up for your packet of FREE sunflower seeds and growing instructions.
  • Get Planting! Take your seeds home and start planting. Whether it’s in the garden or a pot, it’s all about having fun and watching your sunflowers grow tall and strong!
  • Care for Your Sunflowers. Make sure to water your sunflowers regularly and give them plenty of sunshine.  Check out our Sunflower Care Guide (below) for all the tips you need to help your sunflowers thrive!
  • Snap & Share. Show us your sunflower journey! Take pictures of your sunflowers growing and email them to us on hello@blackwoods.co.za.  Feel free to tag @blackwoodsnursery, @rawlivingsa and @kirchhoffsseeds.
  • Submit your final picture/s by 15 February 2026 (final submission date) and you could be our 2026 Sunflower Superstar!

The Sunflower Superstar prize will be given for the biggest, brightest sunflower smiles. They will receive a R1000 Blackwood’s Voucher, a garden hamper and a R2000 Blackwood’s Voucher for their school!  Fans on our social media platforms will be the ones to vote for our final winner!

Terms & Conditions Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to children of all ages.
  • Blackwood’s will provide one packet of FREE sunflower seeds per child (while stocks last).
  • Blackwood’s employees and their immediate families are not eligible to win.
  • Entry Process: To enter, participants must visit any Blackwood’s store, sign up at the cashier and collect their free sunflower seeds and growing instructions.
  • Photo Submission Requirements: Participants must post send pictures of their sunflower/s to hello@blackwoods.co.za.  Participants are encouraged to share the fun and tag Blackwoods, Kirchhoffs and Raw: Instagram – @blackwoodnursery | @kirchhoffsseeds | @rawlivingsa Facebook – @Blackwoods.HoG | @KirchhoffsZA | @RawLivingSA. Final submission date for all photos is 15 February 2026.
  • Prize: The Sunflower Superstar winner will receive a R1000 Blackwood’s voucher, a garden hamper and a R2000 Blackwood’s Voucher for their school.
  • Permissions: By submitting photos, participants (and their parents/guardians) give Blackwood’s, Kirchhoffs and Raw permission to use the images for marketing purposes, including but not limited to social media, newsletters and website. This includes sharing winning entries and general submissions.
  • Parental Consent: Parents or guardians must provide consent for their child’s participation and agree that any photos or media shared may be used by Blackwood’s, Kirchhoffs and Raw in line with these terms.
  • Indemnity: Participants and their guardians release Blackwood’s, Kirchhoffs and Raw from any claims or liabilities arising from their participation in this competition, including any damage, loss, or injury sustained during the planting and growing of sunflowers.
  • Data Protection (POPI Act Compliance): Any personal information collected during the competition will be processed in accordance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act. Your data will be used solely for the purpose of communicating with you regarding this competition and future marketing efforts by Blackwood’s, Kirchhoffs and Raw. You may unsubscribe from these communications at any time. Your details will not be shared beyond Blackwood’s, Kirchhoffs and Raw to any third parties without your consent.
  • Competition Deadlines: Seed collection begins 22 September, 2025. All entries must be emailed to hello@blackwoods.co.za by 15 February 2026.
  • Winners will be announced via Blackwood’s social platforms and contacted directly.
  • Judging: Winners will be selected based on the category criteria by a Blackwood’s panel of judges. The decision of the judges will be final. The judges will select a minimum of 6 entries and put these entries forward on social media, where the public will be invited to vote for their favourite and the ultimate winner of the competition.
